Brahmaputra in India
In India the river appears in Assam a Northeastern state . In Assam the river can be as wide as 6.2 miles. After Assam the river splits into two channels, the Kherxhutia Channel and the Bramaputra Channel The two channels join again after 62 miles. The split forms a island called the Majuli island It then cuts through the Shillong Plateau , which can get as narrow as 1,100 yards. The Battle of Saraighat was fought here because it is so narrow. The name of the Brahmaputra means Son of Bruma in Sanskrit. This river is the least polluted in India, But it faces constant flooding leaving some citys constantly rebuilding.
